The country is steeped in history, with 1,000 year old mosques, the most incredible cathedrals and Roman ruins and Menorca which lays claims to the highest number of prehistoric monuments in the world.

What it is like to live in Spain

Spain is a real mediterranean paradise riddled with unexplored hidden beaches, and if you wish to travel a bit further out by boat, you’re bound to come across the Balearic Islands and find endless gems hidden between pine forests and stunning crystal-blue water.

Spain also has some of the most delicious foods, fresh fish making different varieties of paella, with the Mediterranean diet being classed as one of the healthiest in the world.

Apart from the heat, history and foods – what else does Spain have? The country throws legendary parties. Spain is home to some of the world’s most joyous and colourful festivals, including Valencia’s firework festivals. Villages have their own summer activities or fiestas, ranging from battles involving paint, grapes or oranges to flaming effigies. The parties can get so extravagant they make the international news, with events such as Tomatino or the running of the bulls, which drew 100,000 people in 2013.

Travelling inside the country could not be more affordable and easy, with most major cities connected with high speed trains. The country also boasts some of the largest art galleries in the world.

The culture of long family meals, Sunday rests and fantastic summers on the coast to top up the tan certainly has its appeal.
