What is the True Expat Population?

For years, we’ve always been told by the media that the UK has one of the largest Expat populations in Spain – and this is true, however – which country has the most?

The Spanish Property Portal Kyero released a graph showing the total population of expats / foreign residents by country they originally came from, and the numbers have surprised many Real Estate Agents along the coastlines.

These figures have also been released/sourced from the Ministry of Employment and Social Security – There are 2,765,061 foreign residents in Spain (5.9% of the general population of Spain).

Below (The Statistics – Source: Kyero & Ministry of Employment and Social Security)

Surprisingly Romania makes up 34.7% of the population entering Spain as Foreign Residence, with the UK at a staggering 275,558 compared to Romania of which is almost hitting 1 million alone!

Other Countries:

  • Morocco – 32,117 – 1.16%
  • Dominican Republic – 32,008 – 1.16%
  • Belgium – 29,967 – 1.08%
